The Roper idea
Read the terrain, then choose the right timing
Roper is a compact platform game by Martin Magni built around timing and terrain. A tap launches the character, while holding at the right moment attaches a rope and turns the jump into a swing.
Walls introduce slides, rebounds, and reverse-direction climbs. Each stage asks you to read the layout, perform the appropriate move at the right point, and collect all of the coins on the way home.
The same input has several uses
A quick tap handles a basic jump, but walls and rope nodes change whether you should rebound, climb, or hold for a swing.
01Tap to jump
02Use walls for height

One-touch platforming
Tap to jump, hold to swing
Tap to jump. Use a short tap to cross ordinary gaps and adjust the character’s movement around platforms.
Use walls for height. Slide down a wall, then jump at the right moment to reverse direction and climb.
Hold to swing. When a rope node is available, hold to attach and release at the correct arc.
Collect every coin. Plan a route that gathers all coins before completing the stage.

Roper guide
Read the terrain before you tap
Roper rewards observation more than frantic tapping. Identify the terrain action needed for each section, then focus on a clean input at the exact wall edge or swing arc.
Separate the route into actions
Label each section as a normal jump, wall rebound, climb, or swing before starting the attempt.
Release on the useful arc
During a swing, wait until the character’s momentum points toward the next platform or coin.
Restart for rhythm
If an early mistake breaks the coin route, restarting quickly is often better than forcing a poor recovery.
